Nestled in the Southeastern Ohio foothills of the Appalachians, Vinton County is packed with natural beauty and hometown charm. This rural area of Ohio consists primarily of farmlands, and extensive woodlands. In fact Vinton County is more than 70 percent wooded, boasting within its boundaries several State Parks, a State Forest, and part of a National Forest. The county is home to miles of trails for riding and backpacking. Nearby Hocking Hills is a destination unto itself, with world renowned geological features, ATV trails, hiking and exploring galore.
Vinton County is home to several historic covered bridges, dozens of “Quilt Barns”, a haunted railroad tunnel, and of course, earthtouch! It is home of the first female sheriff in 1925, (a fascinating story at the Visitors Bureau Web site) and is famous for its Iron Ore production in the early & mid 1800’s. In fact much of the county was stripped bare of timber to aid in the production of this precious resource during the Civil War.
Earthtouch sits just west of the county seat of McCarthur. It is a small rural Ohio town, with a Subway being the only chain restaurant. On route 50, less than a mile from Peacock Road on the way to earthtouch south, is a newer Sunoco Station, complete with a small deli and snacks and beverages. There are several hometown restaurants nearby. Please support the local businesses!
